NXT Gen Cup dropped from Formula E schedule

In a blow for the fledgling all-electric motorsport market, the NXT Gen Cup, aimed at up and coming touring car drivers, will now not be appearing on the Formula E calendar this year.

The series, which runs identical electric Mini race cars, built by Lestrup Racing Team in Sweden, was due to run as the support race at all four European Formula E rounds this year, starting with Misano, Italy, on April 13.

In a statement, Formula E said, “Due to unexpected constraints faced by the support series, it will no longer be an addition on the World Championship calendar in Season 10.”

The championship says it has already started amending its timetable to reflect the changes: “Formula E has already begun implementing positive adjustments to ensure the continuity and success of upcoming events, beginning with a revised schedule for the Misano E-Prix to ensure minimal disruption to fans and expanded activities that include pit-lane autograph sessions, additional pit walks and expanded promotional track activities.

“Formula E remains committed to nurturing the next generation of talent through FIA Girls on Track and other impactful initiatives for young people.”
