JE Pistons Celebrates Over 75 Years of Race-Winning Innovation

In a recent EPARTRADE tech webinar, JE Pistons showcased more than seven decades of innovation and excellence in high-performance engine components. Titled “JE Pistons: Over 75 Years of Providing Race Winning Solutions,” the webinar featured key voices from the company: Bryce Mulvey, General Manager of BoostLine and Product Manager at JE Pistons; Sebastian Franzen, Senior Technical Sales Associate; and James Irwin, General Manager of JE Pistons. The session was hosted by Chuck Lynch, Vice President of Technical Service at AERA.

Together, the team offered insights into JE Pistons' legacy, technical breakthroughs, and the critical role pistons play in unlocking engine performance across multiple motorsports disciplines.

From Founding to the Forefront

Founded in 1947, JE Pistons has become synonymous with racing success. The brand has powered everything from grassroots drag racers to elite-level NASCAR and NHRA machines. This longevity, according to the speakers, stems from a relentless focus on engineering, customer support, and motorsport collaboration.

“Racing is in our DNA,” said Mulvey. “What makes JE unique is not just the product—we’re engaged from the design stage all the way to the track.”

Engineering for Extremes

A major highlight of the discussion was JE’s investment in piston design, metallurgy, and CNC machining. The panel outlined how JE uses advanced software, including finite element analysis (FEA), to engineer pistons that maximize power while withstanding the harshest racing environments.

Franzen emphasized how JE’s product line serves a wide range of applications: “Whether you’re building a high-revving naturally aspirated engine or a turbocharged drag monster, we’ve got forged piston solutions dialed in for performance, durability, and consistency.”

Collaboration with Racers and Builders

Irwin shared how JE’s hands-on partnerships with engine builders, race teams, and OE manufacturers allow the company to stay ahead of the curve. The team underscored the importance of real-world feedback and customization in piston development.

“Builders push the limits—and so do we,” Irwin stated. “From compression ratios to skirt coatings to custom dome shapes, JE is built to collaborate.”

BoostLine Technology and Material Advancements

The webinar also covered the success of BoostLine connecting rods, which JE developed to complement its piston offerings. BoostLine rods use a unique tri-beam design and proprietary materials to deliver unmatched strength and fatigue life—especially in high-boost applications.

According to Mulvey, “BoostLine was born from JE’s racing roots, and it’s quickly become the go-to rod in demanding applications where traditional designs just won’t hold up.”

Looking Ahead

As JE Pistons continues to expand its presence in motorsports and performance street markets, the team reaffirmed its commitment to innovation, precision, and racer-focused support.

“We’ve been doing this for over 75 years,” said Franzen. “But we’re just getting started.”
