Netflix set to show Canadian GP as Apple TV carries Drive to Survive
Netflix will broadcast this year’s Canadian Grand Prix as a result of a partnership that will also include Apple TV carrying the latest season of the Formula 1 docuseries "Drive to Survive."
The partnership was announced by Apple’s senior vice president of services Eddy Cue on Thursday, with Netflix then confirming the news on its TUDUM site. The latest season of Drive to Survive drops on Friday, Feb. 27, and will also be available to subscribers of the F1’s US broadcaster.
“In 2026, Formula 1: Drive to Survive fans have a new way to go deeper into the sport through a new collaboration between Apple and Netflix,” the Netflix announcement read. "For the first time, Drive to Survive will be available to stream on both Netflix (globally) and Apple TV (U.S. only) as Season 8 launches and takes viewers through the thrills, shake-ups, and triumphs of the 2025 FIA Formula 1 Championship.
“Whether you’re a casual viewer who fell in love with Formula 1 through Drive to Survive or a die-hard enthusiast tuning in to each race weekend throughout the year, the collaboration between Apple TV and Netflix brings more ways to engage with the sport.
“As Apple TV becomes the exclusive U.S. broadcaster for all F1 races including all practice, qualifying, Sprint sessions and Grands Prix, Netflix will also carry Apple TV’s live coverage of the Canadian Grand Prix to viewers in the U.S., giving Drive to Survive fans a chance to see the rivalries they’ve watched for years play out in real time.”
Cue says the partnership reflects the importance of Netflix’s role in growing the popularity of F1 in the U.S., as Apple looks to increase fan engagement further.
“We've collaborated together so that the Canadian Grand Prix, which is on May 22nd, is also gonna stream on Apple TV and Netflix in the U.S.,” Cue said. “Netflix, I think, has played a pivotal role in growing F1 since the launch of Drive to Survive, and we're thrilled to make F1 content more broadly available to new and existing U.S. fans on both Netflix and Apple TV.”
Alongside the Netflix announcement, Cue confirmed Apple TV will carry both F1 TV and Sky Sports F1 commentary options this season, and that select grands prix will be made available for free through partnerships and Apple platforms. All F1 support races – including Colton Herta’s debut Formula 2 season, plus Formula 3, F1 Academy and Porsche Supercup – will also be carried on Apple TV.
