Supercars recalls batch of front wheel spindles from circulation after tech review

Supercars has released a statement regarding front wheel spindles, following an investigation by the Supercars Technical department.

Cam Waters’ #6 Monster Energy Mustang lost its front-left wheel in the latter stages of the first race of the season at February’s Thrifty Bathurst 500.

Waters was 22nd on lap 33 of 40 when the wheel parted company. The Tickford Racing driver pitted for repairs, eventually finishing 22nd.

Supercars has since completed an investigation into the #6 spindle incident, with a batch of front wheel spindles previously supplied to some teams recalled from circulation.

In the statement, Supercars says all teams have been advised ahead of the next round in New Zealand.

The statement reads:

Following the incident at the Thrifty Bathurst 500 involving Cam Waters losing his front-left wheel in the latter stages of the race, a thorough investigation has been carried out by Supercars Technical Department.

Supercars can confirm that as a precaution, a batch of front wheel spindles previously supplied to some teams, has been recalled from circulation.

All teams have been advised.

The 2024 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the ITM Taupō Super400 on April 19-21.

Fans are encouraged to secure ticket options, with Saturday and Sunday general admission and grandstands sold out.
