French supercar startup Quarkus to compete at Pikes Peak
French manufacturer Quarkus, which is currently developing a road-going supercar, has announced it will take part the 2024 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with the Quarkus P3.
The company states that the car features a carbon chassis with an in-house-developed powertrain and suspension, including a four-cylinder engine mated to what it calls a ‘micro-hybrid’ system. Overall power is pegged at 300bhp, with a target vehicle weight of 600kg.
“To take on Pikes Peak, while the first development prototype has just been presented, is clearly not a reasonable idea. No constructor does that!” stated Damien Alfano, founder of Quarkus. “But that’s our philosophy: to believe in our dreams, set no limits and share this adventure with our customers and partners, who are all as passionate as us.
“When Bruce [Jouanny, driver and consultant] told me his idea to climb this monumental summit, I simply could not say no. It spoke to my heart. Now, we’re going, and it’s an incredible opportunity to boost the development of the Quarkus. We have three months to complete what normally would take nine… Let’s go!”
The car will be run by RD Limited, the team led by four-time Pikes Peak winner Romain Dumas. The French outfit is highly experienced at Pikes Peak, having competed in the event since 2012, with overall wins and class victories in Time Attack 1 and Open. Following a track program, testing is also planned at altitude in the Alps.
