Porsche reveals Manthey Kit for 718 Cayman GT4 RS

Porsche has revealed that the 718 Cayman GT4 RS will have an optional Manthey Kit to optimize the vehicle for use on race circuits. The extensive modifications place a focus on aerodynamics and chassis components to enhance the vehicle’s handling and performance.

The kit – the result of a collaboration between engineers at Porsche Motorsport and the Nordschleife specialists at Manthey – brings a wide array of functional aero changes, including new flaps and new air curtains with a wheel arch Gurney flap and a new carbon underbody with diffusers for the front end to enhance downforce.

A rear wing that is 3.4in wider also comes as part of the Manthey package, and larger side blades contribute toward more downforce over the rear axle. The new wing has four positions to choose from to optimize airflow, up from the standard three. The bodywork of the rear engine cover has also been reinforced using a carbon-weave finish to ensure it can withstand higher aerodynamic forces. Both of these components work in tandem to reduce turbulence at the rear of the car. When traveling at speeds of approximately 200km/h – with the wing set to the Performance position – total downforce increases from 89kg to 169kg.

A special coilover suspension has also been developed by Manthey and Porsche, consisting of an inverted setup that can be set specifically for driving on track. All the spring struts can be adjusted to four positions, and the rebound and compression stages can be adjusted without tools. Spring rates for the front suspension have been increased by 20%.

Revisions have also been made to the GT4 RS braking system as part of the Manthey upgrade package. These include steel brake lines and racing brake pads.

The 500ps GT4 RS with the Manthey Kit fitted completed a lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:03.121 minutes – six seconds quicker than the 718 Cayman GT4 RS without the upgrade kit.
