Miami, China join F1 Sprint schedule for 2024

Miami and China will both host their first Formula 1 Sprint events in 2024 as the opening two rounds of a six-event calendar.

China will get the ball rolling in Shanghai on the weekend of April 19-21, followed by Miami on May 3-5. Next up is Austria, which will become the first three-time host of a Sprint round on June 28-30. Austin’s Circuit of the Americas will run its second Sprint race on October 18-20, followed by Brazil on November 1-3 and Qatar on November 29.

“I am delighted to announce six exciting venues for next season’s F1 Sprint events, including two new hosts – China and Miami – both of which will be fantastic additions and provide great racing for all our fans at the race and watching at home. Since its creation in 2021, the Sprint has been consistent in delivering increased audiences on TV, more on track entertainment for the fans at events and increased fan engagement on social and digital platforms, and we are looking forward to the exciting events next year.”

During the F1 Commission meeting in November it was agreed that the Sporting Advisory Committee will discuss potential changes to the Sprint format, with a proposal to be presented to the F1 Commission for consideration at the first meeting of 2024.

RACER understands that one item currently being discussed involves a form of reverse grids, potentially involving only part of the grid being reversed such as the current format utilized in Formula 2, where only the top positions are reversed – but that further talks are planned to understand how that can be effectively done.
