McLaren Applied adds TPS Sport to its range of sensors for motorsport

McLaren Applied has launched a new rim-mounted sensor for its Sport Range tire pressure monitoring system.

TPS Sport is a wireless, low-power sensor weighing 40g, which measures absolute pressure and ambient temperature. It is the latest addition to the company’s range of sensors for motorsport series seeking off-the-shelf solutions with simple installation.

The new sensor uses a sustainable, user-replaceable battery and is designed to work with the same receiver and handheld as the company’s high-end sensor solution, the TPS5, meaning the sensors are interchangeable. Sampling and transmission rates change depending on tire conditions, and the sensor transmits the measured data over an RF link to a compact receiver on the vehicle.

TPS Sport also comes with an RFID wake-up feature, allowing individual sensors to be manually triggered to start transmitting data upon request. The sensor offers a default nominal frequency range of 433.0MHz; a 315.0MHz version suitable for the Japanese market is available upon request.
