Bryan Herta Autosport announces move to LMP2 for 2026

Bryan Herta Autosport has announced it will step up to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with a full-time LMP2 program in 2026.

The team’s move up to LMP2 follows a five-year run of TCR class dominance in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series. Bryan Herta Autosport won five consecutive championships in partnership with Hyundai from 2019 to 2023.

Prior to that, BHA won two Indianapolis 500s, in 2011 with the late Dan Wheldon as its driver, and in 2016 – in partnership with Andretti Global – with Alexander Rossi.

BHA also won the 2018 Pirelli World Challenge TCR teams’ and manufacturers’ championships prior to the move to IMSA.

“Our entry into the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is vital for building our foundation for the future,” said team president, co-owner and namesake Bryan Herta. “The LMP2 platform gives us the opportunity to develop our personnel and systems in a way that prepares us to compete at the highest level. It’s the next logical step for our organization, and one that we’ve been planning for some time.

“We’re incredibly excited to take this leap forward while continuing our championship-winning efforts in the Michelin Pilot Challenge with Hyundai. We have accepted this new challenge with the clear objective to prepare ourselves with the focus on growth and learning, but I am excited to see how the program has come together and I think we can also hope to achieve our share of success on track as well.”

Along with providing its mechanics, engineers, and other team members to gain experience in IMSA’s premier championship, BHA’s new LMP2 program will also allow the team to further utilize its new headquarters in Brownsburg, Ind., which will serve as the engineering and operational hub for the program.

BHA’s LMP2 team will roll out for the first time during the IMSA Sanctioned Test at Daytona in November. Further details about the team's driver line-up and partners will be revealed in the coming weeks.
