Purdue Motorsports and Dallara to formalize partnership

Purdue University and Dallara are starting their engines on an innovative partnership this Indianapolis 500 race weekend. The partnership, originally announced last May, will be formalized Saturday (May 24) during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Dallara Experience Hub on Main Street in Speedway.

The collaboration allows Purdue’s motorsports engineering program, the only undergraduate, ABET-accredited such program in the country, to be housed inside the U.S. headquarters of Dallara, the largest multinational Italian race car manufacturer. The facility, located just one mile from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, will provide space for classrooms and hands-on training for Purdue students pursuing a career in motorsports while providing them unique opportunities to make early connections with international industry leader Dallara.

“This partnership puts Purdue students and industry leader Dallara alongside one another in the epicenter of the motorsports world,” said Dan Hasler, Purdue’s chief operating officer for Indianapolis. “The education, training and connection opportunities through this collaboration will benefit our students, Dallara and the motorsports industry as a whole here in central Indiana and beyond.”

Purdue students will gain real-world knowledge from faculty like Chris Finch, director of the Purdue motorsports engineering program in Indianapolis and former IndyCar race engineer with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, while training alongside Dallara. Dallara has been the exclusive chassis supplier of the NTT INDYCAR Series since 2012 and is the sole chassis provider for the Indy NXT Series by Firestone (IndyCar); the designer of the Next Gen car (Gen-7) for the NASCAR Cup Series; and the manufacturer of the Cadillac and BMW LeMans Daytona Hypercar, a sports prototype car, for IMSA (International Motor Sports Association).

Many Purdue graduates from the program in Indianapolis have gone on to careers with motorsports manufacturers like Dallara, as well as in series such as IndyCar, IMSA and the National Hot Rod Association, many of which have teams headquartered in central Indiana. The motorsports industry plays a huge role in Indiana, generating a $2 billion economic impact annually, according to the Indiana Economic Development Corp.

Purdue Motorsports will begin operations at Dallara in time for the start of the fall semester in the 2025-26 academic year.
