Motorsport UK and Simracing.GP introduce sim racing series

Motorsport UK and Simracing.GP (SGP) have launched a new e-sports series, the British GT Esports Cup 2024, aiming to match the excitement of the Intelligent Money British GT Championship.

Starting in February, the inaugural series will encourage participation from community drivers rather than solely professional sim racers, giving even new drivers a chance to take part in a competitive championship closely aligned to its on-track version.

Hosted by SGP, the Esports series will take place across British tracks on Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC), a racing simulation video game, with one brief trip to Spa in Belgium to mirror the real-world 2024 British GT calendar.
To replicate the challenges of the GT series, the e-sport version will adopt a mix of formats from a sprint-style event at Oulton Park with two 60-minute races, to the longer challenge of a three-hour battle at Silverstone.

Forty slots will be available for teams of two drivers made up of a professional (Pro) level driver and an amateur (Am). These levels will be decided using SGP’s proprietary ranking system and each driver will need to have completed five races on ACC with SGP to ensure an accurate ranking.

Prizes are available. In collaboration with British GT, Motorsport UK Esports is offering the first-place team four hospitality tickets (two per driver) to a 2024 British GT round of their choice plus four grid walk passes. The second-place team will win four hospitality tickets (two per driver) to a 2024 British GT round of their choice; the third-place team will win four general admission tickets (two per driver) to a 2024 British GT round of their choice.

SGP head of sales and marketing Adam Eley said, “For SGP it is always important that we continue to provide opportunities for drivers of all abilities, which is why the Pro-Am format is just so exciting.”

Lauren Granville, Intelligent Money British GT Championship manager, added, “Motorsport UK already organizes several national sim series, while the Simracing.GP team is one of the best in the business. The new format will also allow gamers of all abilities to compete – a significant change from British GT’s last e-sports championship in 2021 and the wider current SRO Esports environment.”
