Improved Racing Launches New Line of High Flow Check Valves

Improved Racing has released a new high flow, low restriction check valve. Based on a check valve design used in military jet turbines, these valves feature a flapper that swings completely out of the fluid's flow path, for virtually no additional flow restriction.

The company says the internal geometry of the check valve body is based on a math model that presents the lowest possible pressure drop. Each part was completely designed and optimized using commercial-grade CAD and flow simulation software.

According to Michael Ihns, Improved Racing's founder and President, these check valves have been tested to hold 1,000 psi of backflow pressure without failure, far exceeding the limits of military-grade flapper check valves. "The military surplus valves we tested failed catastrophically below 200 psi and had much higher leak down rates," he said. "Our valves held 1,000 psi without excessive leak down rates. This allows us to conservatively rate our valves at 300 psi of constant operating blackflow pressure. In the unchecked direction of flow, we rate our valves at 1,000 psi of operating pressure."

He added, "The cracking pressure on these valves is just 0.04 to 0.05 psi, which is very low for a sprung check valve."

According to the company, every internal component is made from stainless steel to ensure long lasting, reliable performance and compatibility with just about any automotive fluid. The flapper's gasket seal is made from FKM (Viton®), giving it a high operating temperature of up to 302°F. It's also highly chemical resistant and compatible with all types of fuel.

Improved Racing's check valves start at $149 and are currently available in -8AN, -10AN, -12AN male threads and -10AN female O-ring boss threads. The company also offers the option to mix and match different check valve halves to create a completely custom valve, which ships completely assembled at no extra cost. The company says it also plans to develop additional valve sizes ranging from -4AN to -16AN.

The check valves can be purchased directly on the company's website at www.improvedracing.com, or over the phone by calling their support team at 407-705-3054.
