Gibson to continue as LMP2 engine supplier from 2026
Following a tender launched by the FIA and the ACO this May, Gibson Technology has been appointed to remain the exclusive power unit supplier for the LMP2 class for a term of five seasons, starting from 2026.
According to the FIA, the tendering procedure took several factors into account, such as performance, weight and reliability, running and maintenance costs of the unit, spare parts cost, as well as the bidding company’s infostructure and customer service abilities, its sustainability, plus its environmental and carbon footprint.
The power unit configuration will be a 4.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8, the same as the current specification cars, however, no mention was made of any changes to the engine requirements from 2026.
The FIA noted that despite the LMP2 class’s suspension from the FIA World Endurance Championship for 2024, due to the high volume of entries in the Hypercar class, LMP2 cars will still participate in next year’s Le Mans 24 Hours and will maintain FIA homologation. The class will also continue its presence in IMSA, the European Le Mans Series and Asian Le Mans Series.
