Fifth Edition of the Sustainable Championships Index™ Launched
Enovation Consulting, in collaboration with Professor Paolo Taticchi, Professor of Strategy and Sustainability at UCL School of Management, has released the fifth edition of the Sustainable Championships Index™ (SChI™).
The 2026 SChI™ assesses the sustainability performance of 89 four-wheeled and two wheeled motorsport championships and is based on 25 carefully calibrated sustainability performance criteria across six dimensions of sustainability: Certifications; Accreditations & Awards; Environmental Criteria; Social Criteria; Sustainability Approach; Engagement & Partnerships.
Top Performers Revealed
The fifth edition of the SChI™ highlights continued leadership in sustainability among global motorsport championships. The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship retains its position at the top of the podium, followed by the FIA Formula One World Championship in second place. The FIM MotoGP World Championship rises to third, with Extreme E & H in fourth position and the FIA World Rally Championship continues its upward trajectory, moving into the top five, up from eighth place in 2024. Biggest Movers
Several championships demonstrated notable progress in 2025, including the FIM Bajas World Cup (+17 places), FIA World Endurance Championship (+12 places), and Repco Supercars Championship (+11 places).
Overall, 30 championships improved their scores, up from 26 in 2024, signalling growing engagement with structured sustainability action. While 59 championships remained at the same score, progress remains uneven across the sector. Encouragingly, only 14 championships now sit on zero points, and two additional championships scored for the first time, demonstrating that previously unengaged championships are beginning to kickstart their sustainability journeys.
Dr. Cristiana Pace, Founder and CEO of Enovation Consulting, said: “The fifth edition of the Sustainable Championships Index™ demonstrates how far motorsport has come in integrating sustainability. What began as a way to benchmark and highlight best practices is now a tool that inspires action across the sector. It’s encouraging to see more championships engaging with environmental, social, and governance initiatives, and to witness innovative approaches emerging year after year. Sustainability is no longer a footnote: it’s becoming a core part of the sport’s performance and impact.”

ABOUT THE SUSTAINABLE MOTORSPORT INDEX
‘If you cannot measure it, you cannot improve it.’ This motto underpins the approach of the Sustainable Motorsport Index™ (SMI™), which assesses and measures the sustainability performance of motorsports stakeholders against the UN SDGs and the global ESG framework. An industry first, the SMI™ is the only global performance system of its kind, benchmarking and comparing circuits and championships on the basis of publicly disclosed data. The findings within each index identify best practice, giving other key stakeholders the possibility to explore measures they could in turn adopt and implement. The SMI™ uses carefully calibrated indicators and third-party validation by industry experts to provide a comprehensive and balanced comparison across five pillars: environment, social, governance, sustainability approach and engagement, accreditations, and awards. Launched in 2022 during international day of Clean Air and Blue Sky, the Sustainable Motorsport Alliance Membership include a number of ESG services to respond to the demands of motorsport businesses as that embark on the road to zero, together with networking opportunities and introduction to trusted sustainable suppliers.
