FIA WEC obtains ISO 20121 certification

The leading international standard for sustainable event management, ISO 20121 guides event organisers in the implementation of sustainable management systems, aiming to reduce negative environmental, social and economic impacts while enhancing positive legacies.

Applicable to all types of events – cultural, sporting and institutional – it promotes a structured and ongoing approach based upon impact assessment, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement. This globally-acknowledged framework enables organisations to embed sustainability principles at the heart of their planning and operations, defining precise processes and ensuring proper monitoring.

A recognition reflecting a global commitment

This dual certification reflects a gradual, committed and rigorous approach driven by a shared conviction – to host a world-class championship without compromising the wellbeing of future generations.

A collective transformation of the ecosystem

This evolution is based on a systemic approach that includes:

  • Reducing our carbon footprint, with a comprehensive baseline assessment in 2024 and clearly defined goals
  • Integrating sustainability criteria across all areas: responsible catering, inclusion and accessibility, waste management, renewable energy use and sustainable logistics
  • Engaging our partners and teams, notably through the DHL Sustainability Endurance Award, which highlights concrete actions in environmental and social impact
FIA WEC’s sustainability commitment since 2022

Since 2022, FIA WEC has initiated its transition towards a more sustainable championship by adopting Excellium Racing 100, a 100 per cent renewable fuel developed by TotalEnergies. This FIA-compliant fuel also meets the expectations of manufacturers and the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED), reducing CO₂ emissions by at least 65% over its full life cycle.

Next milestone: First sustainability report and strategic outlook

At the end of the 2025 season, FIA WEC will publish its first-ever sustainability report, providing a transparent overview of its actions to-date and areas for further progress.
